Schulthess Dashboard
How can doctors and patients make more informed, collaborative decisions about surgical interventions? To address this challenge, a dashboard was developed for the Schulthess Klinik to visualize patient survey data, aiding the assessment of thumb prosthesis needs. The survey allows patients to self-evaluate how pain and limitations affect daily life, offering insights into when surgery might be necessary. Surgeons use the dashboard to review this data with patients, fostering shared decision-making and ensuring treatment plans are tailored to individual needs.

Survey Data Visualization
Before consulting with a doctor about thumb prosthesis options, patients fill out a survey detailing their specific challenges and how these affect their daily lives. The completed survey data is stored in a database, which then populates a dashboard accessible to the doctors. This dashboard serves as a valuable tool, guiding doctors in discussions with patients to determine whether a thumb prosthesis is necessary. Previously, the dashboard presented the data primarily as text and numbers directly from the survey, making it difficult to quickly interpret key insights.

Information Structure
The main objective was to identify the most crucial information for doctors and find ways to present this visually for faster understanding. Initial iterations focused on a simple wireframe, with feedback from doctors proving invaluable for improving the dashboard’s usability. Through iterative design, we refined the structure to highlight essential data for efficient, informed consultations.

Design
The design aligns with the clinic’s established branding. Colors were meticulously selected, and bar charts were segmented into mini-boxes to support accessability and to doctors who prefer printing the dashboard in black and white for cost savings. The design got realised by Michael Oyewale and is in usage. Based on feedback the final design, developed by Michael Oyewale, has proven effective, fostering productive patient-doctor collaboration and enabling informed, patient-centered decision-making around thumb prosthesis options.
